Hi dearest readers and followers ;)

Save the date “World Cancer Day 4 February” by Les Aventures de  Ronald Tintin, Super Professeur, mobile application of Super Professeur :mobile.superprofesseur.com, http://mobile.ronningagainstcancer.xyz and Ronning Against Cancer.

Each year on 4 February, World Health Organization (WHO) and International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) supports Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to promote ways to ease the global burden of cancer.

Cancer is the uncontrolled growth and spread of cells. It can affect almost any part of the body. The growths often invade surrounding tissue and can metastasize to distant sites.
Many cancers can be prevented by avoiding exposure to common risk factors, such as tobacco smoke. In addition, a significant proportion of cancers can be cured, by surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, especially if they are detected early.
Taking place under the tagline “I am and I Will.” (#IamAndIWill), World Cancer Day 2019-2021 will explore how everyone – as a collective or as individuals – can do their part to reduce the global burden of cancer.
On 4 February every year, World Cancer Day unites the world’s population in the fight against cancer.

#IAmAndIWill

Whoever you are, you have the power to reduce the impact of cancer for yourself, the people you love and for the world.
It’s time to make a personal commitment.

The theme: 2019 - 2021

2019 marks the launch of the 3-year ‘I Am and I Will’ campaign. ‘I Am and I Will’ is an empowering call-to-action urging for personal commitment and represents the power of individual action taken now to impact the future

A 3-year campaign for impact

World Cancer Day is a campaign built to resonate, inspire change and mobilise action long after the day has passed.
A multi-year campaign offers a chance to create long-lasting impact by increasing public-facing exposure and engagement, more opportunities to build global awareness and impact-driven action.

The I Am and I Will’ campaign explores how everyone – as a collective or as individuals – can do their part to reduce the global burden of cancer.
Join World Cancer Day 2019 to show that together I Am and I Will’ make a difference in the fight against cancer.

Under the campaign theme I Am and I Will’, World Cancer Day represents a unique opportunity to draw attention to what can be done to address cancer, save millions of avoidable deaths and, in turn, support global economic growth and development.
I Am and I Will’: Today, the world’s leading international cancer NGO, the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), urges corporations to focus their business on products and services that improve public health.
Moreover, UICC is asking governments to urgently reaffirm their commitment to the following cost-effective cancer ‘essentials’ package that save lives:
·        Implementation of vaccination programmes which prevent infections that cause cervical and liver cancer
·        Scale up of access to early detection and screening programmes for cervical, breast and bowel cancers and follow-on treatment2
·        Improved tobacco taxation, regulation and control
·        As well, as pain relief and palliative care services for all cancer patients.

About World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day takes place every year on 4 February and is the single initiative under which the world can unite to raise the profile of cancer in a positive and inspiring way.

Coordinated by UICC, World Cancer Day is this year taking place under the tagline ‘We can. I can.’ and explores how everyone – as a collective or as individuals – can do their part to reduce the global burden of cancer. Just as cancer affects everyone in different ways, everyone has the power to take action to reduce the impact that cancer has. World Cancer Day is a chance to reflect on what you can do, make a pledge and take action.

About the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC)

UICC is the largest international cancer-fighting organisation, with over 900 member organisations across 155 countries representing the world's major cancer societies, ministries of health, research institutes, treatment centres and patient groups.
The organisation is dedicated to taking the lead in convening, capacity building and advocacy initiatives that unite the cancer community to reduce the global cancer burden, promote greater equity, and integrate cancer control into the world health and development agenda.
UICC is dedicated to continuing to work with world leaders to increase their support for cancer control measures, and encourage accountability for the cancer commitments made in the UN Political Declaration on NCDs and the Sustainable Development Goals. UICC uses key convening opportunities like the World Cancer Leaders' Summit, World Cancer Congress and World Cancer Day for continued focus on:
·        Developing specific time-bound targets and indicators to measure the national implementation of policies and approaches to prevent and control cancer
·        Raising the priority accorded to cancer in the global health and development agenda
·        Promoting a global response to cancer
UICC and its multisectoral partners are committed to encouraging governments to look towards the implementation and scale-up of quality and sustainable programmes that address the global burden of cancer and other NCDs. UICC is also a founding member of the NCD Alliance, a global civil society network that now represents almost 2,000 organisations in 170 countries.

Origin of World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day was established by the Paris Charter adopted at the World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millenium in Paris on 4 February 2000.
This Charter aimed at the promotion of the research for curing as well as preventing the disease, upgrading the provided services to the patients, the sensitisation of the common opinion and the mobilisation of the global community against cancer.
In its article 10, the Charter established that 4 February would therefore be World Cancer Day, so that the Charter of Paris would remain in the hearts and minds of people around the world.
Article 10
Since cancer knows no boundaries, and individual countries cannot address the challenges of cancer in isolation, a new cooperative approach to research, advocacy, prevention and treatment must be established.
The parties undertake to develop unprecedented global networks and alliances to further the goals of this charter. They further pledge to ensure that the objectives of this charter are not abandoned after its signing, by:
1. Recognizing the declaration by all appropriate institutions that February 4 shall be marked as "World Cancer Day" so that each year, the Charter of Paris will be in the hearts and minds of people around the world.
2. Establishing standing committees that will produce annual reports, benchmarking progress against each of the articles of the Charter.
3. Forming a global network of advocacy groups to encourage grassroots support for charter articles within their communities.
4. Creating a global research organization made up of leading professional societies around the world. This group will be dedicated to ensuring that current knowledge is shared across borders, research gaps are identified and promising areas are explored.
5. Rallying one million people around the world to sign the Charter of Paris by the year 2001, thereby showing their willingness to mobilize on behalf of those affected by cancer.
